What does an accident report cover?
Vehicle details, photographs and the damage assessment form the starting point. Depending on the case, the report addresses the repair method and estimated cost, replacement value, residual value and possible diminished value.
Previous damage and repairs must be distinguished from the current incident. Please disclose known issues and provide the available records. A technical appraisal does not make a binding decision on legal liability.
Inspection where the vehicle is located
Based in Ludwigsau, Heinrich Hehr also serves Bad Hersfeld, Bebra and Rotenburg an der Fulda. We arrange inspections at a suitable vehicle location, at your home or in your workshop.
Tell us whether the vehicle is safe to drive and whether any parts have already been removed. Do not drive a potentially unsafe vehicle to an appointment. We agree the scope and location with you in advance.
Who pays for the appraisal?
For a German third-party liability claim where the other party is fully at fault, necessary appraisal costs are generally recoverable from their insurer. Minor damage may only require a repair estimate. Shared responsibility or a disputed need for an appraisal can leave costs with you.
For a claim under your own vehicle insurance, policy conditions apply. Obtain clarification from the insurer before instructing an expert. We clarify the technical scope and fee; individual legal advice is a separate matter.

Frequently asked questions
Does every scratch require a full report?
No. Photographs and a repair estimate may be sufficient for minor damage. The appropriate documentation depends on the individual case.
Can you inspect the car in my workshop?
Yes, by arrangement. Please provide the vehicle location and workshop contact so access and the scope can be agreed.
Is an accident appraisal always free?
No. Reimbursement depends on factors including liability and whether the report is necessary. Clarify the scope, fee and possible reimbursement before commissioning it.
This information is general guidance. Scope, fee and timing are agreed individually. Legal and insurance questions require consideration of the individual case.
